Kings invite pair of guards to camp

Posted by rc360 on September 3, 2010

According to a pair of reports from Yahoo! Sports writers Marc Spears and Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter, free agent shooting guards Luther Head and J.R. Giddens will be attending the Sacramento Kings training camp this fall.

Head, 27, is a 6-foot-3-inch, 185-pound guard who has spent five seasons with the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers.

His sophomore season was his best, averaging 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and one steal per game during the 2006-07 season.

Last season, he played 47 games with the Pacers averaging 7.6 points on 43.8 percent shooting 17.3 minutes per game.

Giddens, 25, is a 6-foot-6-inch, 215-pound guard who spent one and a half seasons with the Boston Celtics before getting traded to the New York Knicks last season. He played only six games his rookie season with the Celtics.

In 11 games with the Knicks Giddens averaged 4.1 points on 48.7 percent shooting and 2.8 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per game. He made 73.3 percent of his shots at the rim but missed almost all of his shots outside of the paint.

He also had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in February.

Head and Giddens will fight for the team’s fifteenth and final roster spot but playing time won’t come easy for either player who makes the roster. The Kings have capable shooting guards in Tyreke Evans, Beno Udrih, Francisco García and Antoine Wright.
