Notes from practice: preparing for Lakers, Tyreke’s All-Star appearance

Posted by rc360 on January 28, 2011

The Sacramento Kings flew out to Los Angeles today in preparation to play the Lakers tomorrow.

Tyreke Evans is hoping his team is up to the challenge of beating the defending champions.

“They’re the best team in the league,” Evans said. “They won the championship so we got to get out there and beat the world champs – that will be a good feeling.”

Head coach Paul Westphal said that keeping their players out of foul trouble will be important in tomorrow’s game

“L.A. has two players particularly, Kobe (Bryant) and (Pau) Gasol, who get fouled a lot and shoot a lot of free throws,” Westphal said. “It’s very important to keep their team off the line in general. It’s a lot easier said than done.

“Certainly, we want DeMarcus (Cousins) to be able to stay in the game and not be battling fouls all the time; (Jason Thompson) the same way,” Westphal continued. “What really kills us is when both of our guards get in foul trouble.”

As the NBA All-Star break approaches, Evans announced that he was selected to play in the Rookie Challenge for the Sophomore team. Cousins is a surefire lock to start for the Rookie team.
